Application of Global Environmental Multiscale (GEM) Numerical Weather Prediction (NWP) Model for Hydrological Modeling in Mountainous Environment

As the world is changing, mainly due to climate change, extreme events such as floods and droughts are becoming more frequent severe. Considering this, predictive modeling of flow in small mountain catchments that particularly vulnerable flooding critical. Rainfall data sources rain gauges, meteorological radars, satellites provide hydrological model with a lag. Only numerical weather predictions can achieve this advance, but their estimates often subject considerable uncertainty. This article aims verify whether Global Environmental Multiscale precipitation prediction be successfully applied for event-based rainfall–runoff modeling. These were verified use two aspects: determination antecedent moisture conditions. The results indicate GEM satisfactorily used modeling, good simulation obtained when significant rainfall occurs. In addition, these correctly estimate AMC groups each sub-catchment which one key elements flowing into amount projected outflow catchment. It worth noting that, according literature review conducted by article’s author, first published attempt directly applications.
